Talent & leadership development
“The Programme created a ‘wake-up’ moment resulting in the Circular Economy and the Sustainable Development Agenda being much more ‘front’ and ‘centre’ of strategy and thinking.”
- CEO

The challenge
We were asked to partner with a leading FMCG to design and deliver a senior talent and leadership development programme as a way of ensuring deep connection between senior leaders, a focus on the strategic direction and an opportunity for ensuring innovation in the business.
The outcome
The ROI includes retention of key talent as well as promotion by a number of programme participants into Board roles. This company is recognised a leader in sustainability and has been included in several major Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) indexes and funds worldwide. The programme created a network of senior leaders for mutual support, challenge, and knowledge sharing.
Our approach
Commercial acumen and business strategy - 6 month learning experience
The programme was launched with a virtual classroom, followed by two face-to-face four-day modules six months apart, supported by both strategic and personal experiments.
Circular economy and innovation
Between the face-to-face sessions, participants worked together on their experiments - we sent content helpful to their chosen area and they connected beyond the constraints of the organisation with leading experts in the arena of the circular economy and innovation.
Personal experiments
A series of short provocations by experts explored some of the rapid changes happening in the world such as the rise of AI and Age of Acceleration.
International leadership examples
We divided participants into three tutor groups and all three chose to focus on plastic in the supply chain but each from a different perspective. A visit to Adidas in Seoul, South Korea provided a different outlook to leadership and approach to sustainability.

Our insights

“In 2019 we were delighted to be a finalist with our longstanding client, at the CIPD People Management Awards. We are very proud of the work we did on putting the Circular Economy at the heart of an innovative and socially impactful leadership development programme.”
Samantha Rockey
With increasing pressure for consumer goods companies to address their impact on the environment, this created both a challenge and an opportunity for the company to reimagine its business model and create a development programme linking strategy and leadership development.
